Access to business support
Through a mixture of Government funding and support schemes, a low taxation regime (some business sectors benefit from 0% corporation tax), access to a secure infrastructure sufficient to house established international companies and a Government that is keen to create as few barriers and blockers as possible, the Isle of Man has been and continues to be a hub for entrepreneurialism.
sufficient to house global organisations, the Isle of Man has been, and continues to be a hub for entrepreneurialism. In the last five years alone, the Isle of Man Government’s Department for Enterprise has supported 469 small businesses through its Micro Business Grant Scheme - designed to give start-ups and early stage small businesses the necessary financial support, training and business acumen to get their business off the ground.
Another great example of local Government support, is the Department for Enterprise’s Business Migrant Route; an effective immigration route available to individuals from outside the Common Travel Area, that are looking to set up a business in the Isle of Man. This progressive immigration route is available to any type of business, operating in any type of sector or industry.
An Island where entrepreneurialism is encouraged and celebrated
In recent years, the Department for Enterprise has shone a spotlight on the wealth of opportunity available to individuals looking to start, grow or locate a business in the Isle of Man. From 2016-2018 it ran one of the most prominent business conferences and start-up festivals in the British Isles. ‘ISLEXPO’ was curated for the business-minded at every level and across all sectors, and included inspirational speakers, informative workshops, fireside-chats, expert panel discussions, networking events and think tanks that focused on what makes the Isle of Man a unique business destination. The hugely successful event brought together many on and off-Island entrepreneurs, business owners and professionals - all under one roof.
Access to talent
The Island is home to a range of educational facilities underpinned by a Government and local private sector that widely champions learning and development from a young age, as evidenced across many local apprenticeship and internship programmes. In the last several years, the Department for Enterprise has hosted an annual Graduate Fair, showcasing the breadth and diversity of the Island’s economy and local career opportunities to on and off-Island graduates.
Despite being outside of the UK, the Isle of Man offers both a progressive and straightforward work permit and immigration system that allows for a greater freedom of movement – and skills to the Island.
