Cookie Policy
To comply with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations we periodically conduct a Cookie Audit of our website. This Cookie Audit was last updated on 19 March 2024.
Our website uses a number of cookies to store data on our visitor's computers.
For more information about managing cookies, please see http://www.aboutcookies.org/.
Cookies created by this website
This website creates a number of cookies, which are referred to as first party cookies as they are specific to the host site that created them. All the first-party cookies which are created do not store any personal or sensitive information, or anything that makes you personally identifiable to us. They are used for essential functionality such as security when processing form data or for analytics which helps us use anonymous visitor data to gain a better understanding of how people use our website.
Session IDs
Our web server may create an essential session cookie, which is essential for your use of some of the interactive elements of the website, such as contact forms. The cookie contains a session ID which is a mechanism for distinguishing your visit to our website from any other visitors that may be using the website at the same time. This cookie expires when you leave our website.
Cookie Message
If you click the 'close' button on the Cookie Message that may appear along the top of our website, our web server will create a cookie called event-alert-cookie, which is essential for remembering that you have closed this message, and to prevent it from continually reappearing after you have closed the message. This cookie expires after 24 months from the initial 'close' of the message, after which the Cookie Policy message may reappear if you revisit our website.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to measure how users interact with website content.
Cookie name | Default expiration time | Description |
---|---|---|
_ga | 2 years | Used to distinguish users. |
_gid | 24 hours | Used to distinguish users. |
_ gat | 1 Minute | Used to throttle request rate |
Full details of the cookies which Google Analytics uses can be found in Cookies & Google Analytics in documentation for Google's Analytics tracking code. You can also read Google's Privacy Policy for Google Analytics.
We don't share the data that Google Analytics collects, and we don't believe that our use of Google Analytics is privacy-intrusive. We use the data that is collected in the following ways:
- to report, in aggregate, how our visitors find and use our website;
- to understand overall visitor behaviour; and
- to inform how we update and improve our website.
To opt out of our use of Google Analytics you may wish to consider using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
We use Google Tag Manager to integrate with Google Analytics which creates a _gcl_au Tag Manager cookie. This is a first party cookie for "Conversion Linker" functionality - it takes information in ad clicks and stores it in a first-party cookie so that conversions can be attributed outside the landing page.
Google Ads
We use Google Ads as a means of advertising our website.
Google uses cookies for advertising, including serving and rendering ads, personalizing ads (depending on your settings at myadcenter.google.com, and adssettings.google.com/partnerads), limiting the number of times an ad is shown to a user, muting ads you have chosen to stop seeing, and measuring the effectiveness of ads.
The ‘NID’ cookie is used to show Google ads in Google services for signed-out users, while the ‘ANID’, ‘IDE’ and ‘id’ cookies are used to show Google ads on non-Google sites. If you have personalized ads enabled, the ‘ANID’ and ‘IDE’ cookies are used to personalize the ads you see. If you have turned off personalized ads, the ‘ANID’ and ‘id’ cookies are used to remember this preference so you don’t see personalized ads. The ‘NID’ cookie expires 6 months after a user’s last use. The ‘ANID,’ ‘IDE,’ and ‘id’ cookies last for 13 months in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (UK), and 24 months everywhere else.
Depending on your ad settings, other Google services like YouTube may also use these and other cookies and technologies, like the ‘VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE’ cookie, for advertising.
Some cookies and similar technologies used for advertising are for users who sign in to use Google services. For example, the ‘DSID’ cookie is used to identify a signed-in user on non-Google sites so that the user’s ads personalization setting is respected accordingly. The ‘DSID’ cookie lasts for 2 weeks.
Through Google’s advertising platform, businesses can advertise in Google services as well as on non-Google sites. Some cookies support Google showing ads on third-party sites and are set in the domain of the website you visit. For example, the ‘_gads’ cookie enables sites to show Google ads. Cookies that start with ‘_gac_’ come from Google Analytics and are used by advertisers to measure user activity and the performance of their ad campaigns. The ‘_gads’ cookies last for 13 months and the ‘_gac_’ cookies last for 90 days.
Some cookies and similar technologies are used to measure ad and campaign performance and conversion rates for Google ads on a site you visit. For example, cookies that start with ‘_gcl_’ are primarily used to help advertisers determine how many times users who click on their ads end up taking an action on their site, such as making a purchase. Cookies used for measuring conversion rates are not used to personalize ads. ‘_gcl_’ cookies last for 90 days. Similar technologies such as the Advertising ID on Android devices can also be used to measure ad and campaign performance. You can manage your Ad ID settings on your Android device.

The LSOs are soundData (which appears to store volume setting preferences) and videostats (which appears to store performance-related information). We have no direct control over YouTube's use of the data stored in this object. For more information, please read YouTube's privacy policy.
