Why the Isle of Man?
A popular visitor destination, the Isle of Man has a well-established and vibrant hospitality scene awash with bars, restaurants, and hotels all of which celebrate the Island’s beautiful local produce and is ideal for those looking to progress their hospitality career. Our extraordinary Island, which is located just off the northwest coast of the UK, is well-connected and offers an excellent quality of life. Boasting stunning and varied natural landscapes, spanning both the coastal and inland areas, the average commute time is only 20 minutes, and the Island has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe.
Rachel Rooney is from the UK and has travelled extensively. In late 2021 she decided to settle on the Isle of Man with her young family and works as a receptionist for one of the Island’s leading hotel groups; Sleepwell Hotels.
‘The best thing about working in the Isle of Man hospitality industry, is the diversity. You are always guaranteed to meet new and interesting people every day, whether that be a visitor or one of our many friendly locals enjoying a staycation.
My job has given me the chance to meet many new people and as a person who is very sociable, I very much enjoy the interaction with the guests. It has also given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the local Manx culture, in helping guests to find their way around the Island and explore the history of this beautiful place that I am now lucky enough to call my home.’
