Christy moved from Jamaica with PWC in 2021. Since then she's been enjoying a better work life balance, making new friends and enjoying all the Isle of Man has to offer.

How long have you lived on the Isle of Man and what made you move here?

1 year and 5 months and I moved here because I wanted a better work life balance, to still maintain Island living as I am from Jamaica. I also wanted to remain with the same firm I use to practice with in Jamaica – PwC.

 

How would you describe it to someone who has never been?
Very beautiful and quiet small island, everyone knows everyone. Wonderful people, lots of little pubs and ciders. Lots of outdoor activities – cycling, walking etc.

 

Tell us about your job – what do you enjoy most about it?
I love working on different clients, meeting new people and understanding different industries. My favourite being insurance. I love how kind, and interactive everyone is at workplace. From partners down to the CAE’s we all can have a good chat and share different experiences. And we have lots of social activities, we work hard and play hard.

 

Do you feel there is career opportunities for you on the Isle of Man?
Yes – At PwC, we are actively encouraged to discuss our career goals, and we are assigned career coaches who assists us in achieving what we desire. I also believe I could definitely leave PwC and obtain a decent job afterwards.

What difference has living on the Isle of Man made to your work-life balance? How do you spend your free time?
I definitely have lots of time now, firstly I can walk to work, restaurants, pubs etc. I can do weekend trips across easily. I get to spend more time with my friends and co-workers.

What opportunities has living on the Isle of Man given you /your family?
I have been able to assist my family more financially and hopefully they can come visit me soon. I am able to travel UK and Europe which was almost impossible before.

 

Why would you recommend the Isle of Man to others looking to relocate and what would be your top tips?
Work life balance, short commutes or walk to work, very rainy island so be prepared with a good coat, lots of outdoor activities, very very safe country, warm and loving people and located very well to accommodate lots of travelling.
